Chapter 2: Questions and Trust

You finally arrived at the lake expecting to see Jack Frost there. You looked around and saw no one. You tried called out his name, there was no response. You sighed "So I was just a little crazy then."

"Nope, you just need to turn around."

You jumped and turned falling on your butt when he said that. Jack simply laughed. "You're a little skittish aren't you?" When he leaned on his staff it made him look curious and friendly. He held out his hand, when you took it the coldness surprised you, but you still kept your grip. You started mumbling under your breath as you brushed off the snow caked to your coat and pants.

"This is stupid... I'm crazy...All because of those stupid nightmares..."

Jack piped in "Um you have seen nightmares?"

You faced him "Have I had reoccurring nightmares instead of dreams? Yes..." You paused noticing how Jack asked that question, "You asked that question like nightmares are living breathing things. Why is that?"

He closed his mouth in a way that seemed to tell you that if he said anymore you would know too much and a hitman would jump out of the bushes and do away with you in a matter of seconds. He cleared his throat "I meant to say 'Nightmares they always seem to get in the way of dreams. So how do you like the weather?"

You gave him a dirty look then shook your head "Ok I see you want to change the subject so fine. I came here for answers and to see if I was just imagining you."

He smirked "Which you clearly are not imagining me."

"Yes, now the question..."

Jack interrupted you, "Well let me start with one question and you can ask away."

You were about to object but he raised one eyebrow and gave you a serious look. "Fine, ask your question?"

"What is your name?"

"What?!"

He laughed "So your name is what."

"No!"

"I won't answer any questions until you at least give me your name."He started playing with his staff by twirling it in the air.

Him playing this name game infuriated you. After a whole minute you finally gave him your name "(name)... my name is (name). There can I ask my question now?"

He stopped playing with his staff, "Thank you (name) for giving me your name. You may now ask your question."

"Are there other legendaries like you? I need to know just in case I bump into one so I can react like I didn't really see them so I don't look like a crazy moron."

He answered your question with a question, "What do you think?"

You wanted to land face first in the snow. He was so annoying... then why was he so attractive? Maybe it was his rebellious nature or something. You rubbed your forehead, "Well my best guess is that yes there are other legendaries. Or in this case what do you call yourselves?"

He pointed to the sculpture on the manmade island, "don't you remember what I told you before you knocked yourself out?"

"No"

"It starts with a G." He was being a smart aleck now.

You threw his game right back at him "Gnomes?"

"Nope."

Pretended to play dumb you continued "Gardeners?"

"Nope."

"Greenhorns?"

"No."

"Gamblers?"

"No. We are..."

You interjected, "Gamekeepers?"

He was starting to see the point, "You know the answer don't you?"

It was your turn to give a smirk, "Guardians?"

"Yes exactly."

You suddenly remember a book your mother read to you. It said something about Santa, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, and Sandman working together to protect the children's innocent thoughts and dreams of their future from shattering into the clutches of darkness. "How come the book never mentions you?"

He looked at you with puzzlement "Book? What Book?"
You sat down "My mother, when she was around would read me a story every night called 'The Guardians of our Children.' She wrote it herself. It was about how one day children started to disbelieve in all the legendaries and start believing and fearing the boogyman..."

Jack looked down and glared at the snow, then realized you were looking at him. He sat down beside you. "So when the kids started believing in the boogyman..."
He seemed interested so you continued "Well the guardians started to lose their power, but one mortal rose against the boogyman and his minions with a weapon made from the moon or something... so then that little belief in the guardians gave them enough strength to help fight off the boogyman. They fought valiantly but the mortal was wounded severely, after the boogyman retreated to his hole of darkness the guardians tried to heal the mortal, but failed. He died but not forgotten."I started to tear up, "My mother always told me every time she finished the book 'always believe no matter what happens because you may have to become a mortal guardian.' I still don't understand what she meant." You grabbed the chain that was around your neck. It had a locket sized pocket watch on it. You opened it and looked at the picture on the lid. It was a picture of your mother and you having a picnic in front of a tomb stone where your father was buried.

Jack pointed at the picture, "Who was buried?"

You sniffed "My Father... I didn't even know him he died 6 months before I was born, but when I was old enough she would tell me that he died a hero and leave it at that. When he died she also wrote that book."Jack noticed you started crying. He reached out and held your face in his hands they felt chilly on the bottom of your jaw. He wiped away a tear with his thumb. He stared for a moment. You moved away "Sorry, here I am telling my sob story to a complete stranger."

He chuckled "Hey, I got to know you a little more right?" You were about to answer but he looked up at the sky. Following his gaze, you saw the northern lights flow across the stratosphere. Jack glared "Well another meeting then." He stood up and held his hand out,
"I'll take you home."

You looked back up at the sky and stood up taking Jack's hand "You said 'another meeting' with who?"

He smiled mischievously "Are you afraid of flying?"You shook your head. Before you could say anything else he grabbed you around your waist and flew in the air. You wrapped your arms around him tightly out of surprise. He looked at you and smiled "First time flyer?"

You smiled back, "With a winter spirit... yeah." He flew faster. Next thing you knew you were set down in front of your house. You felt kind of selfish because you didn't want him to leave, you wanted to get to know him more. You decided to ask one question "Jack?"

His blue eyes stared into your (iris color) eyes "Yes (name)?"
You tucked some stray strands of hair behind my ear "Will I ever see you again?"
He threw his head back and laughed "Of course, it is not every day I get to meet a girl who can actually see me."

You blushed at his remark. As he flew off your heart felt like it went with him flying higher and higher. You had to catch your breath. Laughing up at the sky and falling in the snow you noticed you never felt this way before.

You closed your eyes and whispered "I can't wait to see you again Jack Frost."
Here is Chapter 2. So for clarification on the book the mother wrote. She wrote the book based on what happened the day after the father died and before Jack defeated Pitch Black.
